Biography - Bob Grez
In 1954, Bob was born in Brazil where the music is as hot as the land and emigrated to the United States with his parents in 1960. He lived in Brooklyn during the early 60’s and briefly lived in St. Paul Minnesota where he first tasted country music by George Jones, Jimmy Dean, Leroy van Dyke, Jim Reeves, and Patsy Cline. In the late sixties and the early seventies, he went to high school in Sussex, New Jersey in a peaceful rural setting surrounded by dairy farms and rolling hills. There he first experienced the good country life that so many write about.
In rock and folk music, Bob always liked the country flavors he heard from the Eagles, John Denver, Harry Chapin, Tom Rush, and Kris Kristofferson. But it was Roy Orbison's music that showed Bob the meaningful lyrics and music from the heart.
Bob’s songs are rooted in the best music in the world. Bob says, "Someone once said that we can see so far because we have stood on the shoulders of giants and they were right. Those giants have laid out the difficult groundwork in every field including country music. It is up to us to grow the next garden."
Bob is a Rennaisance man in a modern world. He was a West Point cadet, factory worker, journalist, poet, store manager, electrician, physicist, and engineer. In this ever changing and fast paced world, Bob mostly clings to the simpler things in life. Bob likes playing his guitars and banjo, but writing songs, singing, and recording are his favorite activities.
Besides music, Bob likes camping and boating, enjoys watching a good movie, and still enjoys helping scouting. Bob lives in central New York with his wife, JoAnn, and their four children -- Alice, Peter, Katherine, and Elizabeth. They occasionally work on restoring their 1844 home and they barbecue or swim or camp as often as they can.
Country singer songwriter Bob Grez loves writing songs, singing, recording and performing.
Bob has released two albums: Ain't Plain Country and Still A Cowboy. The music spans from the down home traditional originals to the modern more contemporary country flavors with the occasional excursion to alternative country. What sticks out are the Bob Grez vocals, his sense of humor, and the intensity of the lyrics. Co-produced with Carmen Caramanica (lead guitarist for Tony Orlando and Dawn and for Raquel Welch and producer for Lou Rawls), these albums also feature Carmen's fine lead work.
These CDs were on the internet and have met with resounding successes. At mp3, Bob has amassed five number one hits and four number twos on the mp3 charts for more than half a million song plays. All 26 of his songs have been on the top 10 country charts. His two CDs were the number two and number three selling country CD at mp3. Bob Grez is presently the number one male country artist on mp3.
Additionally, Bob was picked as the number one Country Artist at mp3.com.au in Australia. And his song My Life Is Like A 100 Country Songs has been the number one song at Country Music Club for 10 months.
Bob’s songs have been played on more than 70 radio stations in the US, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Russia, Japan, and Australia. This included many one hour specials dedicated strictly to Bob’s music.
Bob opened for a three day country music festival, played in coffeehouses and in retirement homes, and played in some well traversed watering holes. Bob has diverse experiences in live performances..
Both of his albums received great reviews by Amanda Fisher from Rambles On Line Magazine. In the review for Still A Cowboy she wrote, "If you're a country fan who isn't pleased with the way country and pop have started to sound like each other, try Bob Grez, you'll like his traditional sound.” And in the Ain’t Plain Country Review she concluded, ”Grez is a talented writer and performer, and getting better -- I look forward to his third album."
The International Country Music Association gave Bob 4 Stars for both of his demo CDs!
Bob is currently working on the material for his next independant album. He expects to complete this project in the summer of 2002.
